YESTERDAY WAS A very significant day in Irish history.
The country voted by 66.4% to 33.6% to remove the Eighth Amendment from the Constitution, paving the way for the legalisation of abortion in some circumstances.
More than 2.1 million votes were cast, with over 1.4 million in favour of repeal. At 64.5%, the turnout was one of the highest ever recorded for a referendum in this country.
