Gardaí say it would combat the growing issue of members of the force being assaulted.
GARDAÍ HAVE CALLED for more members of the force to be armed with tasers.
The Garda Representative Association raised the issue at its annual conference in response to the rising number of gardaí being assaulted while on duty.
As many as 1,000 out of a total of 10,500 rank-and-file gardaí are attacked each year.
