FINANCE MINISTER MICHAEL Noonan spent Christmas in hospital after undergoing surgery for fluid on his chest.
It is understood that Noonan (72) underwent surgery at a Dublin hospital recently and is now recovering.
In a statement released this evening, Noonan said:
“Two weeks before Christmas I attended my doctor and was diagnosed with an infection involving fluid in the chest area.
“I subsequently underwent some medical procedures and I am now well on the mend.
“I will be attending cabinet on January 5 and I look forward to contesting the upcoming general election.”
The finance minister has previously undergone a heart bypass operation, and received treatment for cancer in 2014. He underwent treatment for an eye condition earlier this year.
