GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses following a shooting in Drogheda this evening. 

The incident took place in the Hardmans Gardens area of Drogheda shortly after 4pm today.

When officers arrived at the scene they discovered a 36-year-old man who had been shot a number of times in the leg and shoulder.

The man was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he is in a serious but stable condition.

Gardaí believe the shooting is linked to an ongoing gang feud between two groups in the town.

The attackers used a red Volkswagon Golf bearing false registration plates during the incident.

The car was found burnt out in the Sheephouse area on the Rathmullen Road, Drogheda. It is believed that two men ran from this car when it was abandoned.

Describing the “indiscriminate attack” as “callous and reckless” Superintendent Andrew Watters of Drogheda Garda Station said the broad day light shooting endangered members of the public and children.

An Garda Síochána are aware that a number of other persons in the area very narrowly avoided being shot and seriously injured in the attack.

Superintendent Watters appealed to anyone with information which will assist the Gardaí in finding the perpetrators to come forward.
In particular gardaí are appealing to:

• Anyone who was in the Hardmans Gardens area of Drogheda before 4:23pm today who saw anything unusual in the area or persons/vehicles which drew their attention.
• Anyone who saw a red Volkswagon Golf car, bearing registration plate 191-D-31786 or any red Volkswagon Golf in the Drogheda area today.
• Any drivers in the Drogheda area with dashcam footage, particularly those who may have been in the vicinity of Hardmans Gardens, Lady of Lourdes Church and Rathmullen Road areas between 4pm and 5pm.
• Any person with any information on this attack.

The Gardaí also made a special appeal to the drivers of a dark navy coloured taxi and a rigid lorry with a white cab (advertising Tipperary Water) which were stopped directly behind the attackers red Volkswagon Golf to come forward.
