Man due in court after two elderly men assaulted in afternoon car robbery

A 25-year-old man was arrested at a house in Ballymun on Tuesday afternoon.

A 25-YEAR-OLD man is due in court this morning after two elderly men were assaulted during a car robbery in Clontarf on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 12.30, a man walked onto the driveway of a house on Malahide Road and assaulted a male in his 70s and took his car keys.

A passerby, also in his 70s, went to the aid of the injured party but was also assaulted.

The suspect left the scene in the stolen car.

Both men were treated at the scene by Dublin Fire Brigade, the second injured man was taken to the Mater hospital for further treatment but has since been released.

A man was arrested at a house in Dolmen Court in Ballymun on Tuesday afternoon, the car was also found in Ballymun.

He will appear in court at 10.30am this morning.
