Armed man arrested in Connecticut university lockdown

The campus issued an alert earlier today to all staff and students to stay indoors and close all windows until told to do otherwise.

CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE University has just lifted its security lockdown after an armed man, who has now been arrested, was spotted on the campus.

At about 6pm GMT, the campus issued an alert to all staff and students to stay indoors and close all windows until told to do otherwise.

The university also told students to keep quiet and put their mobile phones on silent or vibrate. On its Twitter account it said there was a report of a “suspicious person” on campus.

The university has now confirmed that a suspect has been taken into police custody. The campus police have given the all clear and students are now allowed to leave their buildings though all classes and events are cancelled for the rest of the day.
