Man killed after truck hits van and overturns near Drogheda

A section of the road remains closed to traffic.

A MAN IN his 40s has died after the truck he was driving crashed into a van and overturned on the motorway embankment on the M1 near Drogheda this afternoon.

It happened in the southbound lane of the road, between Drogheda and Monasterboice, at around 12.45pm.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

There are no reports of other injuries.

A section of the roadway remains closed this evening as emergency services attend the incident and forensic tests take place.

A Garda spokesperson said it would be some time before the route was fully opened to traffic.

Investigating officers are appealling for witnesses to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 9874200.
