VR tour: This former Dublin distillery is now a huge loft-style apartment

The space covers 1,970 sq ft – and it’s a 30-minute walk from O’Connell St.

If you have Google Cardboard or another VR headset, you can enjoy a full 3D experience by tapping the ‘goggles’ icon.

ORIGINALLY HOME TO the Dublin Whiskey Distillery and dating back to the 1890s, Loft 2 is a restored apartment that’s a lesson in well-thought-out open plan living and contemporary design.

The current owner, architect Anthony Keeler, bought the 1,970 sq ft space in 2015. He transformed what was then a ballet studio to highlight the original features of the protected structure.

Today, a mix of modern and salvaged finishes complement the loft-style structure of the two-bed apartment. The interior walls were stripped back to reveal the brickwork that makes up the majority of the walls and arches.

Solid blocks of painted finisings help to define each specific area, including a home gym and an office space. Plus, they bring a vibrant splash of colour against the brickwork.

Each ‘zone’ of this home has its own identity, so you won’t need to spend time figuring out how to make such a large space feel homely.

A nod to the building’s unique past is the “whiskey corner”, complete with a beer barrel table, some salvaged bicycle stools and a plush leather sofa that creates the perfect nook for entertaining.

The main bathroom is home to a vanity counter top, made from salvaged wood, while a freestanding bath further adds to the design aesthetic and makes sure the exposed brickwork sits unharmed.

The area of Drumcondra has the advantage of being close to the city as well as the airport. For sports fans, Croke Park is just a ten minute walk away. What’s more is that a ramble towards the Liffey will have you on O’Connell Street in less than 30 minutes.

Loft 2 The Grainstore, Distillery Loft, Drumcondra, Dublin 9 is on sale for €750,000 with DNG Fairview via Daft.ie.

This virtual reality tour is presented as part of Experience Your World with KBC.
