DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND World Cup jerseys were among the contraband seized by Revenue officers in recent operations.

Over a two-week period beginning on 29 June, contraband with an estimated value of over €116,000 was seized in operations in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort.

Seizures included 1.7kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €36,600, as well as over 1,300 tabs of LSD, with an estimated value of over €13,200.

Over 150 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of €29,800, were also seized, including knock-off World Cup jerseys and fake designer gear from brands such as Louis Vuitton, Canada Goose, Armani, Hermes, Prada and Ralph Lauren.

Tobacco products, with an estimated value of over €13,000 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €9,900, were seized.

Over 528 litres of alcohol was also seized, with an estimated value of over €5,300, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €2,900.

A Revenue spokesperson said the herbal cannabis and illicit drugs seizures were made as a result of risk profiling with the assistance of detector dogs Sam and Ciara.

The parcels originated from the UK, the USA, Canada, Thailand and Slovakia, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.

The counterfeit goods meanwhile were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

Over 480 weapons accessories were also seized, including flares, some bombs, fireworks, and knives.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing. 

A Revenue spokesperson said these seizures are part of its ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
