Egypt cabinet reshuffle fails to appease protesters
Protesters remains defiant in their calls for President Mubarak to leave – and say that tomorrow will bring the biggest demonstrations yet.
EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT HOSNI Mubarak has attempted to placate the growing crowds of furious protesters across the country by reshuffling his cabinet – but to no avail.
Demonstrators have dismissed the latest move by the country’s ruler of 30 years as yet more corruption – and vowed to continue their protests until Mubarak resigns.
Despite disruption to internet and media services, tens of thousands of demonstrators marched on Tahrir Square once again today, carrying placards bearing slogans like “I’ll go home when Mubarak leaves”, and chanting “Get out … We want you out!”
A huge march is planned for Tuesday – advertised through flyers and satellite news broadcasts, the BBC reports.
The police force, which has withdrawn from the streets, has been replaced by the military – however soldiers have said they will not use force against protesters. An estimated 140 people have lost their lives as a result of the unrest in the past week.
