THREE PROTESTERS HAVE been arrested and four gardaí injured after clashes outside the Convention Centre in Dublin which is hosting the European People’s Party congress.
There had been a small number of anti-austerity protesters blocking the road outside the Convention Centre earlier today but a group of up to 200 people joined them after marching from Liberty Hall at 6pm.
It is understood that there were clashes between the two groups and gardaí attended. Three men were arrested for a public order offences. Four gardaí were injured in the scuffles but a spokesperson said they sustained “minor injuries and remained on duty”.
Some 2,000 people are expected to attend over the course of today and tomorrow for the annual congress of the largest political party in Europe. of which Fine Gael is a member.
