RETAILERS AROUND THE country are running out of fans because demand has been so high during the recent hot weather. 

Met Éireann has issued a number of high temperature warnings in various counties over the last seven days and a spokesperson for Uisce Éireann said today that localised hose pipe bans are becoming “increasingly likely”.

With the heat set to stick around for a while to come, many people have been looking for ways to keep cool. One way to do that is buying a fan, but many people have been finding out over the last few days that they are too late.

“No fans, no air conditioning, nothing,” said Halgard De Barros, who works in Harvey Norman’s flagship store in Tallaght, Dublin. 

He said the shop was expecting a delivery to arrive tomorrow but was not optimistic that there would be many fans in it.

An employee at DID Electrical in Newbridge, Co Kildare, said they had also completely sold out. 

She said that after receiving the last delivery over the weekend, the fans were all gone within half an hour. 

Customers told her they haven’t been able to find a fan for sale anywhere in the area.

And to make matters, DID’s warehouse is also out of fans.

Sinn Féin TD Donncha Ó Laoghaire is seeing the funny side of the shortage.

He posted a picture of a shop sign informing customers in a shop that fans were sold out and not coming back.

“It’s a good thing we don’t get carried away when it’s sunny,” he wrote.
