The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you should know before you head out the door.

1. #ABORTION: President Michael D Higgins has signed the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013 into law. It now becomes an ‘Act’ and it will mean a woman has the right to an abortion if her life is at risk, including from suicide.

2. #RIP: Tributes are being paid to sports broadcaster Colm Murray who died following a battle with motor neurone disease yesterday. He was 61.

3. #BROTHERS: Postmortems on the bodies of brothers Eoghan (10) and Ruairí (5) Chada are being carried out today in Mayo. They were found yesterday in the boot of their father’s car. Officers are still waiting to interview their father Sanjeev Chada as he continues to receive medical treatment.

4. #NIP: A new political group called The National Independent Party (NIP), which aims to “create a platform to give Ireland a voice” held its first press conference today. They will open their first constituency office in Limerick this week and plans to field as many candidates as possible in next year’s local elections.

5. #DOLPHIN: Swimmers in Clare are being advised not to swim with with ‘Dusty’ the bottlenose dolphin after he injured a number of people and they ended up in hospital in recent weeks.
