The centre of Athens saw a protest turn violent as youths hurled rocks and fire bombs at riot police as a general strike brought Greece to a standstill.

RIOT POLICE AND protesters clashed in Athens today as demonstrations against austerity measures turned violent.

About 20,000 protesters began peacefully, but some sections threw rocks and fire bombs at police. They were in turn pushed back with tear gas and stun grenades…
