GARDAÍ HAVE LAUNCHED an investigation after an elderly woman was killed in a road crash in Co Roscommon last night.

The woman was struck and fatally injured at Ballydangan on the old Athlone to Ballinsloe road at around 8.30pm on Wednesday evening. No other people were harmed.

The scene of the accident is currently closed to facilitate forensic investigations with diversions in place. Motorists are advised to use the M6.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Roscommon Garda Station on 090 663 8300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
