GARDAI ARE CONTINUING their investigation today into the shooting dead of a 19-year-old man in Dublin yesterday afternoon.
Named locally yesterday as Paul ‘Paulie’ McCarthy, the teenager was shot in the head at about 2.50pm at Myra Close in Inchicore. He died in St James’s Hospital around 7pm last night. A Garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that gardai would continue their enquiries today in the area where he was shot but that no-one had yet been taken into custody in relation to the killing. A weapon was recovered on the street not far from where the young man was shot, gardai confirmed.
The Irish Daily Star, Sun, Mirror and Irish Independent all report that McCarthy was charged with possession of cocaine worth €30,000 and possession of a handgun last February. The Mirror, however, takes a different tack, saying that the teen was “shot dead by mistake” at a friend’s home.
Gardai are looking to speak also to a number of people who were in the room of the house where Paul McCarthy was shot when the two gunmen struck, reports RTE.
