A conference for 'post-millennials' is taking place in Dublin next week
While there is no exact date for when Generation Z starts, it is usually accepted to be around the mid 90s.
A CONFERENCE FOR Ireland’s “post-millennial Generation Z” will take place in Dublin next week.
Zeminar runs from Tuesday until Thursday and will see 120 organisations and 60 speakers, discuss topics from homelessness, mental resilience, addiction, equality, the future of work and human rights.
While there is no exact date for when Generation Z starts, it is usually accepted to be around the mid 90s.
People of that age already control €44 billion worth of annual buying power and will make up 4% of the world’s consumer base within three years.
The organisers of the conference say that the age group has “a unique focus on social activism, ethical policy and the need for responsible, inclusive government”.
“13% of Gen Z’ers already own and run their own business and have a clear role in shaping the future of society – that’s really something Ireland and the rest of the world will have to contend with. We’re only beginning scratch the surface of the impact this group will have,” said Ian Fitzpatrick, co-founder of Zeminar.
Damien Clarke, the other co-founder of Zeminar, adds:
“Since our inaugural event last year we’ve developed the content significantly, as we prepare to welcome 16,000 participants to the RDS over the next few days. We always knew this was an engaged group who will effect significant social change, but we’re only beginning to get a sense of the scale of this movement. Hearing directly from Gen Z on the things they care about gives us unique insight to support and enable these young people.”
Speakers include Gina London (Emmy-Award winning former CNN anchor), accessibility campaigner Sinead Burke (aka Minnie Melange), Blindboy Boatclub (Rubberbandits), Olympic medallists the O’Donovan Brothers, Daniel Kyne (Ben & Jerry’s social enterprise co-lead), Sr Stan (founder of Focus Ireland), Professor Donal O’Shea (childhood obesity expert), Atlantic rower Gavan Hennigan, and Eoghan McDermott (2FM) amongst others.
Zeminar will also play host over 50 workshops and a career exhibition.
