And they're off: 116,845 pupils begin Leaving and Junior Cert exams

It was English paper I for both groups this morning, with Home Ec and English paper II being sat this afternoon.

THE AGONISING MONTHS of waiting are over for over 115,000 secondary school pupils in Ireland, as the Leaving and Junior Certificate exams got underway around the country this morning.

Both the Junior and Leaving Cert pupils sat their first English paper this morning, with virtually all of the 116,845 candidates attending to sit their first paper.

The Junior Cert candidates were moving on to a second paper for higher level English this afternoon, while Leaving Cert pupils were facing into a Home Economics exam.

Photocall Ireland’s photographers were out and about this morning, snapping away as the country’s teenagers endured a rite of passage for Ireland’s young people.
