POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have arrested a man in connection with the bomb found on the Belfast to Dublin road a week ago.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in Rostrevor, Co Down in connection with the discovery of the 500lb bomb in a wheelie bin in a van left on the road near Newry, which police later said could have caused huge devastation and loss of life.

Army bomb experts had to carry out several controlled explosions on the vehicle.

The man is being questioned at the PSNI’s serious crimes suite in Antrim.
