Man arrested over 75 cattle and 25 sheep stolen in June

The man was arrested this afternoon and is being held at Athlone Garda Station.

A 34-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the theft of livestock in Westmeath in June.

75 cattle and 25 sheep, with an estimated value in excess of €100,000, were taken from a farm in Kilbeggan.

It was one of the largest ever thefts of livestock in the State and at the time the Irish Farmers Association offered a reward of €10,000 for information about the theft.

The man was arrested this afternoon and is being held at Athlone Garda Station.
