FANS OF SATURDAY Night Live have probably been wondering how the show would introduce new White House press secretary Sean Spicer into the mix.
Spicer got off to a dramatic start with the media two days after Trump’s inauguration, saying they had underestimated the size of the crowds at the ceremony and uttering the now infamous line:
[It was] the largest audience ever to witness an inauguration, period.
Who could fully embody this man on the edge? Tonight, Matthew, Melissa McCarthy IS Sean Spicer.
McCarthy took on Spicer’s first official press conference in her skit, shovelling gum into her mouth, threatening the assembled journalists, and bandying about some ‘alternative facts’:
The crowd greeted [President Trump] with a standing ovation, which lasted a full FIFTEEN MINUTES. Everyone was smiling, everyone was happy, the men all had erections, and every single one of the women was ovulating left and right.
Viewers agreed that McCarthy’s casting was completely unexpected, and completely brilliant.
Neither Spicer nor the POTUS has acknowledged McCarthy’s impression… yet.
It’s unclear if they’ll be making him a recurring character along with Baldwin’s Trump, but the reaction indicates they should.
