• A woman in her 40s was found dead at a domestic residence in Killarney, Co Kerry, gardaí said. 
• A 72-year-old man was brought before Portlaoise District Court this morning charged with the murder of his wife.
• RTÉ was ordered by the High Court to hand over unedited footage from a documentary about nursing homes.
• The Dáil voted to pass the government’s Occupied Territories Bill, despite fierce criticism from the opposition over the lack of a ban on trade in services.
• An 11-year-old girl who sued Children’s Health Ireland after a non-approved spring was inserted in her body during a spinal surgery in Temple Street children’s hospital in Dublin has settled her case for €950,000. 
• Gardaí said they were investigating a report of alleged animal cruelty that took place in a public area in Ballymun, Dublin.

#UK: Reform UK leader Nigel Farage confirmed that he is stepping down as MP for the constituency of Clacton-on-Sea – but he also confirmed that he will run in the byelection for his own seat in a “people-versus-establishment” vote.

#UKRAINE: A woman suspected of carrying out a bomb attack in Monaco has been found shot dead in Ukraine and serving intelligence officer along with an accomplice have been detained on suspicion of her murder, police have said. 

#FRANCE: An appeals court handed France’s far-right chief Marine Le Pen one year of house arrest over a fake jobs scam in the European Parliament, casting doubt on whether she will run for president next April.

PARTING SHOT

THE OVERTURNING, AT the request of President Trump, of the red card given to US player Folarin Balogun at the World Cup was bad for football, for sport and ultimately for the US soccer team. Like many sports fans around the world, I was delighted and relieved that Belgium beat the United States in the early hours this morning.

Trump’s intervention on the red card and Fifa’s acquiescence, under its nauseating President, Gianni Infantino, brought their double act of shamelessness and sycophancy to a new high.
