1. #NORTHERN IRELAND Today will see thousands of Orange Order members marching in Northern Ireland for their traditional parades. With fears of unrest, there will be 3500 PSNI officers on duty for the 18 parades.

2. #ISRAEL As the death toll in Gaza tops 100, Israel vows no let up – and Hamas remains defiant. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would not end the military campaign until he achieved his goal of stopping the Hamas fire.

3. #UKRAINE Ukraine has vowed to make pro-Russian rebels pay after losing 23 servicemen in clashes across the separatist east. Meanwhile Russia proposed a UN resolution demanding a ceasefire to the conflict.

4. #SPRAY NON-TAN A review is taking place in the US into whether spray-on sun cream is harmful for children. The Irish Health Products Regulatory Authority said it is aware of the investigation and will review the report once it’s published.

5. #DUNDALK Two men in their mid-20s were arrested after gardaí in Dundalk, assisted by Garda national units, recovered a number of stolen vehicles, including car parts and other property.

6. #JAPAN Seismologists said that an earthquake that struck near Japan’s Fukushima nuclear site early today was an aftershock of the 2011 tremor that sparked a deadly tsunami. The latest quake was 6.8 magnitude and caused a minor tsunami.

7. #LASER BEAM An air ambulance carrying a critically ill child was targeted with a green blinding laser beam, the Irish Independent reports. It happened 10 minutes before the aircraft was due to land. The landing occurred safely.

8. #EAT UP Organic food is better than non-organic foods, says a new study. It found higher antioxidant and lower incidence of pesticide residues in organically-grown crops. There were also differences in the vitamin and mineral compounds in the organic foods.

9. #END OF THE CENTURY The last original member of influential punk band The Ramones has died. Tommy Ramone died aged 62 after being diagnosed with cancer. The band formed in 1972.
