One arrested in Cork murder inquiry

Investigation launched after body of a man discovered in a house fire in Youghal, Co Cork early yesterday morning.

ONE MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED in the garda investigation into the murder of a man in Youghal, Co Cork.

The body of Michael O’Shea, 31, was discovered at a flat on North Main Street, Youghal, in the early hours of yesterday morning after emergency services were alerted to a fire at the premises.

The body was removed to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem.

This morning a man in his late 20s was arrested in Cobh and is being detained at Midleton Garda Station for questioning in connection with O’Shea’s death.

Gardaí are appealing for information regarding O’Shea’s movements before 10pm on 12 January.

They are also asking anyone who may have seen any unusual or suspicious activity on North Main Street that night or before 2.30am the following morning to contact them on 024 92200 or 1800 666 111.
