Poll: Should couples split the bill on the first date?

Do you insist paying on the first date, or try to split the bill?

LOVE IS IN the air, apparently.

As it’s Valentine’s Day, we’re asking people what the etiquette is for a first date: should you pay for the bill yourself, let the other person pay if they offer, or split the bill?

In this piece from the Metro, a number of straight men said that they felt they should, or liked to offer to pay on the first date, even though it seemed “old-fashioned”.

Tell us what you think: Should couples split the bill on the first date?

Poll Results:

Yes (4917)
No (2996)
No, but it should be taken in turns (1854)
It doesn't matter who pays (1298)
