Seven dead in Dijon hostel fire
A fire in an immigrant hostel in France forced firefighters to evacuate more than 130 people in the early hours of Sunday morning.
SEVEN PEOPLE HAVE been killed and four seriously injured after a fire broke out in an immigrant hostel in the eastern French city of Dijon.
Local firefighters said the fire in the nine storey building began in a bin in a stairwell at around 1.30 am and spread through the building. More than 130 people were evacuated from the building, many of whom are suffering from smoke inhalation the BBC reports.
Commander Jean-Louis Marc told the AFP news agency that some people had jumped to escape the smoke and flames, however he was not able to say if they were among the dead.
The agency reports that the hostel is managed by the state-owned company, Adoma, which specialises in housing facilities for immigrants.
