Man shot dead by hooded gunman in Athy

The man in his 20s was taken to Naas General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A MAN IS still being questioned after a 22-year-old died after he was shot in Kildare yesterday evening.

Jason Doogue was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. It happened in Athy shortly after 5pm in the Green Hills estate.

It is understood multiple shots were fired at close range by a hooded gunman on a push bike. The victim was standing with a group of friends when the shooter approached him.

Doogue was taken by ambulance to Naas General Hospital with serious injuries.

His mother, Mary Doogue, was murdered in 1995.

A man in his early 40s was arrested and is still being held under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at Kildare Garda Station.
