Strauss-Kahn court date postponed until August

Prosecutors want the entire sex assault case against the former head of the IMF to be dropped.

DOMINIQUE STRAUSS-KAHN’S next court appearance, which was due to take place on Monday, has been postponed until the start of August.

Lawyers for the former head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) continue to insist that the sexual assault case against him can be dismissed following revelations about the veracity of the information being provided by his accuser, a hotel chambermaid in New York.

The FT reports that the lawyers and prosecutors have agreed to delay his next scheduled appearance until 1 August to “facilitate both parties’ continued investigation in this matter”.

It comes as lawyers for the one-time favourite to run for president of France next year launched legal action against Tristane Banon, a writer who claims she was the victim of an attempted rape by Strauss-Kahn in 2003.

P0lice in France interviewed Banon for several hours yesterday as they begin their inquiries. Members of Strauss=Kahn’s Socialist party are also expected to be interviewed as part of the investigation.
