GOOD MORNING

The 9 at 9 Sweet, glorious Sunday. Here’s everything you need to know as we start the day.

EVERY MORNING, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine stories, a little before nine, that you need to know with your morning coffee.

1. #DUBLIN DEATH: Two women remain in garda custody today following the death of 32-year-old Ian Quinn in Ongar, Dublin, yesterday.

2. #COALITION: Both Labour leader candidates Joan Burton and Alex White have promised a shift in attitude to austerity policies if they replace Eamon Gilmore – however Fine Gael has indicated it will not deviate from such polices, according to the Sunday Independent. Meanwhile, TheJournal.ie takes a look at who’s in the running to take Brian Hayes’s vacant Dáil seat.

3. #SNOOPING: Insurance companies are routinely accessing patients’ medical records to gather sensitive information on their drinking habits, sexual history and mental health, the Sunday Business Post reveals. The practise, which doctors fear could dissuade patients from taking important tests, such as for HIV, may be in breach of data protection rules.

4. #CHILD ABUSE: A case against a man charged in possession of the most serious category of child pornography collapsed last year, partly due to a delay in gardaí forensically examining his computer, the Sunday Times reports. The Gardaí’s computer crime investigation unit currently has a backlog of 1,000 cases.

5.#HIJACKING: Two people have been arrested in connection with the hijacking of a car in Ballymun yesterday morning. The 50-year-old driver, a delivery man, was not injured in the incident.

6. #ARMED ROBBERY: Two men are in Garda custody this morning following the robbery of a filling station in Blessington, Co Wicklow last night. Two men, one armed with a “sword-like object” and the other with a handgun, made off with cash after threatening staff.

7. #FIFA: Fifa is facing fresh corruption allegations over the decision to award Qatar the 2022 World Cup, after documents emerged that allege football official Mohamed Bin Hammam made payments totalling US$5m in return for support for Qatar’s bid.

8. #TRAGEDY: Three people have been killed and six injured in two separate incidents at a car rally in Scotland.

9. #HOPE: A Sudanese woman sentenced to death by flogging and hanging after marrying a Christian could be released within days. Meriam Ibhrahim’s case has caused international outrage.
