'I want him back home': Wife of missing 81-year-old Tom Kennedy renews appeal

Kennedy left his home in the Virginia Park area of Finglas in North Dublin on 29 July.

GARDAÍ HAVE SAID they are very concerned for the well-being of 81-year-old Tom Kennedy who has been missing since 29 July.

He left his home in the Virginia Park area of Finglas in North Dublin that evening at around 9pm, without bringing his mobile phone with him.

Out of character

Kennedy’s family earlier told TheJournal.ie that he had no plans to meet anyone that night. They said that it is entirely out of character for him not to return home.

Speaking to Pat Kenny on Newstalk, his wife Fran said the neighbours saw him put the bins out on Tuesday night.

“Every night he made sure last few cups were washed and watched sci-fi on television and I would go upstairs and watch my programmes. I thought he was downstairs. I heard him in the bathroom, I heard him in the other bedroom , pottering, and I heard the bin going out and I thought he had gone back in to watch the television,” she said.

His wife said that it wasn’t until about 11pm that they discovered he wasn’t in the house.

“My grandson had come in from work and I said to him to bring granddad down his tablets and he said he wasn’t in the house,” she said, adding that they looked everywhere for him and then they panicked.

She said that Tom doesn’t drink or smoke. ”It is very unusual,” she said.

Sightings

There have been no sightings of Tom since his disappearance and his family are particularly concerned for his well-being as he has had health problems recently, having been hospitalised for emphysema.

Tom has no history of memory loss, said his wife, tearfully adding:

I just want him back… if he is listening, I want him back home.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information from the public about his whereabouts.

Kennedy is described as 5’3″/5’4″ and of slim build. He was wearing dark trousers, black velcro shoes and a white polo shirt with blue stripes. He was also wearing his glasses and watch when he left home.
