Two men due in court over Longford burglary and shooting

Two men fled the scene, but were later arrested, and a third man was injured in the incident.

TWO MEN ARE due before Longford District Court to face charges relating to an incident in Co Longford yesterday in which a man was shot and injured during a burglary.

A man disturbed three men on his property in Kilmoyle, Co Longford at around 6.30am yesterday.

During the incident, the property owner discharged a shot from a gun, wounding one of the men. A second man fled from the scene on foot but was arrested a short distance away. A third man, who fled in a van which was stolen during the incident, was arrested by gardaí who intercepted the vehicle on the N4 a short time later.

The injured man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Mullingar Regional Hospital, but was later released from hospital and arrested.

Two men, aged 33 and 34 years, have been charged in relation to the incident and are due before Longford District Court at 6.30pm. The third man, aged 29, has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
