5 apps worth downloading this week

Featuring a quick way to clear those redundant WhatsApp images, artsy photos and a motivational alarm from The Rock.

EACH WEEK, WE highlight five apps that are worth downloading for your smartphone and tablet. There are a lot of apps released on a daily basis, but not all of them are worth paying attention to.

This week features a quick way to clear those redundant WhatsApp images, artsy photos and a motivational alarm from The Rock.

Magic Cleaner for WhatsApp
For: Android
Cost: Free

Photos usually take up most of your storage space, but if you’re a heavy WhatsApp user, then you might not realise that photos from it are stored on your phone too.

Magic Cleaner is designed to get rid of all the unnecessary photos and screenshots that came through the messaging app. Let it pick out the photos and decide whether to keep them or not.

The Rock Clock
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

Apps based around a celebrity tend to vary wildly in quality, normally not positively, but this motivational alarm clock from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could sway you over. Set an alarm, choose a tone and listen to a daily message from The Rock himself.

An odd decision from the app is for sleep mode to only work when the screen is on, instead of running in the background, but you can decide whether that’s something you can live with or not.

EasilyDo Mail
For: iOS
Cost: Free

The personal email space is pretty crowded so to separate itself from the pack, EasilyDo automatically organises your mail into easy to understand categories. You’ll have groups like subscriptions, bills, and travel so you know where your important emails are.

Add to that modern features like swipe gestures and you have an email client that’s handy for personal accounts.

PIP Camera Effects
For: iOS, Android, Windows Phone
Cost: Free

A photo app with a small difference. PIP creates different artsy effects for any photo you’ve taken, usually by blurring the background and creating a different frame for your subject.

So you can present your subject through a polaroid photo, glass or another object so they stand out more.

Angry Birds Action
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

While the franchise has faltered a bit in recent times, the latest addition to the Angry Birds series ties in with its upcoming movie, and it’s a fun distraction. Bearing more similarities to pinball, your job is to free all the eggs by flinging your birds against objects and smashing as many things as you can.

Unlike Angry Birds 2, the game isn’t slowed down by free-to-play strategies like drip feeding currencies and lives although the random drops may end up hindering you.
