"Damn girl!": Woman secretly films 10 hours of street harassment by strangers

She was even followed by a man for five minutes as she walked.

WHAT IS IT like to walk the streets of New York as a lone woman?

According to this video from Hollaback!, a group aimed at fighting back against street harassment, it means a barrage of comments about your looks and body.

The group said that Shoshana B Roberts volunteered to take part in the video, which was filmed by Rob Bliss using a secret camera. Shoshana had two mics in her hands as she walked silently along the busy New York streets.

Bliss was inspired to make the video because of his own girlfriend’s experiences with street harassment.

Hollaback points out:

The experience of street harassment is different for everyone.  Street harassment disproportionately impacts women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and young people.  Although the degree to which Shoshana gets harassed is shocking — the reality is that the harassment that people of color and LGBTQ individuals face is oftentimes more severe and more likely to escalate into violence. These forms of harassment are not just sexist — but also racist and homophobic in nature.
