1. A 35-year-old man was charged with the murder of a woman at Clifden in Co Galway.

Ali Sohrabi of no fixed abode was charged with the murder of Masoumeh Jafri Manojan on dates unknown at Couravoughil, Clifden between 27 and 28 May.

2. A Dublin civil servant has been accused of leaking confidential government information to ‘handlers’ in a foreign intelligence service.

 Yevgen McKeeffe (45), originally from Ukraine but with Irish citizenship, appeared at Dublin District Court on Saturday and was refused bail by Judge Máire Conneely.

3. A national strategy for self-driving cars is currently being developed by the government to allow the vehicles to be used on Irish roads

According to Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien, the strategy is being worked on in close collaboration with multiple key stakeholders including representatives of local authorities, the Road Safety Authority, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and the gardaí.

4. Liberties locals are to appeal Dublin City Council’s decision to grant permission for the development of a six-storey ‘aparthotel’ at 144 Thomas Street in the capital, as they say the area needs more social housing and play spaces for children, not more tourist accommodation.

5. The significant loosening of rules around one-off housing will allow those who have an economic or social need to live in a rural location, including returning emigrants, to build a house.

6. A Dublin construction firm owner and three employees were intercepted transporting €5.1 million worth of cannabis imported into the State among a consignment of coffee tables, a court has heard.

7. PSG beat out Arsenal to get over the line in the end to win the Champions League for the second successive season.

Alex Coughlan

8. Mourners gathered for the funeral of Alex Coughlan in Ballyfermot yesterday morning.

Mr Coughlan was seriously assaulted in Blanchardstown on 17 May. He passed away in hospital several days later on 20 May.

9. Protesters in Dublin demanded “justice” for Yves Sakila, a Congolese man who died after he was restrained by security guards.
