Arklow RNLI rescue 3 people from sinking powerboat

The rescue was described as a ‘close call’ by RNLI volunteers.

THREE PEOPLE ON board a stricken powerboat were rescued yesterday afternoon by Arklow RNLI.

At approximately 2.45pm, the Ger Tighchleaar lifeboat was tasked to the vessel that was reported to be taking on water two miles South East of Arklow.

Rescue

Rescuers decided to get the casualty vessel back to port as quickly as possible and a towline was quickly established.

Everyone was brought ashore safely, but RNLI volunteer Aidan Downey said:

This was a close call, if there had been any delay in alerting the lifeboat, this vessel would have been lost, thankfully we were able to get to the casualty in the nick of time.

The salvage pump was used to remove water from the boat and the vessel was re-floated successfully and returned to her berth at Arklow Marina.
