THERE HAVE BEEN calls for a dedicated transport police to be established to combat rising anti-social behaviour on public transport.
The calls come as figures obtained by RTÉ show that anti-social behaviour on Iarnród Éireann trains has jumped by 43% in a two-year period.
There were over 1,000 separate incidents of anti-social behaviour recorded by the company since the beginning of 2017.
The spike has prompted calls from the National Bus and Rail Union for a dedicated transport police to be established.
In the UK, the British Transport Police (BTP) is a special police force that polices railways and light-rail systems across England, Scotland and Wales.
Do you think we need something similar here?
Today we’re asking, Should Ireland have a dedicated transport police?
