Watch Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson defend the universe in one final, unforgettable battle

Fandango named Avengers: Endgame as the most anticipated film of 2019.

AS THE CULMINATION of 22 movies and 11 years of filmmaking, Avengers: Endgame has a lot to live up to. But going by its cast alone, the film might be Marvel’s most impressive yet.

Along with the ever-present Robert Downey Junior as Iron Man, fans can look forward to seeing Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd and Brie Larson team up to save the universe. And of course, hear Bradley Cooper lend his voice to Guardian of the Galaxy’s beloved Rocket.

The film will see the surviving members of the Avengers (along with any allies they can recruit) try to rebuild the universe following Thanos’ destruction in Infinity War and finally defeat him.

The two sequels were filmed back to back, meaning Avengers: Endgame was almost two years in the making. They were also both shot entirely with IMAX digital cameras – the first time this has ever happened in Hollywood.

Not that much is known about the plot but Mark Ruffalo told fans that the film would leave them “grieving”. But other than that, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have been reminding fans not to spoil the film for themselves or anyone else.

As Joe Russo told Box Office Pro, ”If you’ve been following along with this narrative for 10 years, you’re going to want to protect yourself. It’s best to go in clean.”

In the lead-up to its release, the excitement has been building in a massive way – last year, Fandango named Endgame the most anticipated movie of 2019, with IMDB placing it as second only to Marvel Studio’s Captain Marvel.

In fact, pre-sales caused AMC Theatre’s app to crash and claimed Fandango’s most popular ever presale title in 24 hours. It topped films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens in just six hours and outsold Aquaman four times. Another cinema franchise Regal said it sold more in eight hours than Infinity War did in its first week.

And it’s not just the fans who are singing its praises – this is just some of what the critics said at its world premiere in Los Angeles:

This is what Brandon Davis of ComicBook.com had to say:

Rotten Tomatoes editor-in-chief said simply: “Fans are going to go APESHIT”. While Fandango managing editor Erik Davis had called it a “masterful epic”. Variety’s Ramin Setoodeh noted that “there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the credits rolled”. Elsewhere, New York Times’ Dave Itzkoff said it was pretty emotional:

If the undeniable excitement around the world is anything to go by, it’s a definite must-see, whether you’ve followed the Marvel universe religiously or just tuned in along the way.
