CARRIE FISHER WAS an actress, author, and script doctor, but she was also a woman with an acerbic wit.
Outspoken and honest, she took interviewers to task over their questions, kicked back at the Hollywood machine, and had impeccable comic timing.
Though it’s a sad day for fans of Carrie Fisher, many have been paying tribute to her by sharing their favourite moments from her long career.
Here are some of the best of them.
Her Star Wars audition
George Lucas and going braless
Fisher recounted this story about how George Lucas told her there were no bras in space (hence Princess Leia going without the undergarment). Her response was on point.
She spoke honestly about bipolar disorder
Here she is being interviewed by Stephen Fry for his documentary The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive.
Her brutal honesty about her affair with Harrison Ford
In her book The Princess Diarist, Fisher recounted how she had an affair with Ford during the making of the first Star Wars film. In this NPR interview, she was honest about what their affair was like:
She had huge love for her dog Gary
Fisher went everywhere accompanied by her dog Gary – including the red carpet and TV interviews.
She even, as she says here, tried to get him into The Force Awakens.
He had his own Twitter account, and his last tweets were devastating.
She shut down conversations that were not helpful
During one interview, she turned around a conversation about her weight loss:
She was a fantastic – usually uncredited – script doctor
Fisher was a consultant on scripts for films including Hook, Lethal Weapon 3, The Wedding Singer and Sister Act. While she stopped taking on the work a number of years ago, her impact in this area was huge.
She had solid advice for Daisy Ridley
Fisher famously was extremely unhappy with the outfit Princess Leia had to wear after being captured by Jabba The Hutt in Return of the Jedi.
In this Interview magazine interview between Fisher and Ridley, she had some advice for the young actress:
She was a hilarious comic actress
As Marie in When Harry Met Sally, her lines often stole the scene from her co-stars:
She also played herself in Sex and the City:
Then there was her unforgettable appearance in Blues Brothers:
RIP, Carrie Fisher.
