Coast Guard airlifts casualty from Comeragh Mountains

The injured person’s condition is not yet known.

A CASUALTY HAS been evacuated from the Comeragh Mountains in Waterford this evening.

The alarm was raised just before 4pm that a person was in difficulty in the mountain range west of Waterford City.

The southeast Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 117 was subsequently dispatched to the mountain, where the casualty was located with the assistance of the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association.

A spokesperson for the Coast Guard confirmed that the injured party was treated on the ground by the helicopter’s winchman, before being delivered to Waterford city and then on to University Hospital Waterford.

The injured person’s condition is unknown.
