Man seriously injured in explosion in Derry

It is believed a gas explosion occurred in the Bond Street area.

A MAN HAS been seriously injured in a suspected gas explosion at a house in Derry last night.

The police in Northern Ireland said that the house was extensively damaged in the explosion which took place shortly after 10.30pm last night.

Hospital

A man was removed from the scene and brought to hospital where he is said to be in a serious condition.

The explosion took place on Bond Street and police and the fire service attended the scene. Residents from the surrounding houses were evacuated from their homes for precautionary reasons.

The police and fire service remain at the scene and say they are working to secure the area so that residents can return to their homes.
