Elderly couple found safe and well after late-night mountain search
The man and woman had become separated from their walking group in the Ballyhoura Mountains on the Cork-Limerick border.
AN ELDERLY COUPLE was last night located having gone missing while walking in a mountain range on the Cork-Limerick border near Mitchelstown.
The couple were first reported as being missing by members of their walking group, who had been traversing the Ballyhoura Mountains.
A search was begun at about 9.30pm last night.
“A walking group informed gardaí that two of their party had been lost and requested assistance. A search was actioned which led to the couple being located safe and well at just after 1am,” a Garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie
The search was coordinated by Valentia Coast Guard on request from the gardaí, and involved the Mallow Search and Rescue Team, who located the couple.
“At approximately 1.15 am members of the unit located the two missing people alive and well and returned them to awaiting family and gardaí,” Mallow Search and Rescue said.
The nearest Coast Guard helicopter was on standby but was not tasked with the mission.
