THE TAOISEACH Enda Kenny is in Brussels today to participate in an extraordinary meeting of the European Council which will discuss the situation in Libya and look at stronger economic policy coordination in the euro area.

The meeting, convened by President Herman Van Rompuy, will focus on how the EU can support democratic transformation in Libya and the surrounding areas, encourage reforms and promote regional security.

Meanwhile, Kenny has ruled out agreeing to a common corporate tax rate across the eurozone. Ireland has the backing of the European Commission to renegotiate our interest rate, following  a meeting between Kenny and President José Manuel Barroso yesterday.

There have been reports that the German Chancellor Angela Merkel was considering easing Ireland’s interest rate, RTÉ reports.
