RESIDENTS IN PARTS of north Dublin are being advised to close their windows and doors after a large quantity of tyres caught fire this morning.

The fire broke out at an agricultural site in the Ballyboughal area this morning, with Dublin Fire Brigade arriving at the scene at 10.53am.

Smoke from the blaze has been visible in the surrounding area, with local residents advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution if they are affected.

Five fire engines were sent to the scene, including a water tanker and a specialist foam tender.

Almost 20 firefighters have been involved in tackling the blaze, with crews from Swords, Balbriggan, Phibsborough and Tara Street fire stations attending.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus while tackling the fire, which was brought under control shortly before midday, at 11.58am.

Dublin Fire Brigade had earlier said crews were making good progress at the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
