Gardaí dodge serious injury after patrol cars rammed during burglary callout

The incident happened in Carlingford, Louth, last night.

TWO GARDA VEHICLES were rammed by a car after officers responded to a burglary callout.

The incident happened in the Millgrange area of Carlingford, Louth last night.

Two men in their 20s were arrested at the scene and are currently being held at Dundalk Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act .

Gardaí were uninjured in the incident but two patrol cars were damaged.

A garda spokesman said: “As part of Operation Thor, uniformed gardaí on patrol in the Carlingford area of Louth were alerted to a burglary in Willville, Carlingford. On arrival at the scene, gardaí recovered a car which had been stolen earlier that day.”

Officers were then alerted to another burglary in the area and were told a Toyota car had been stolen.

The spokesman added: “Gardaí from the Regional Response Unit assisted in this investigation and attempted to stop the car. The Toyota car then rammed two Garda vehicles.”
