Going shopping in Dublin? The Garda Christmas traffic plan begins today

Operation ‘Open City’ aims to manages Dublin’s seasonal traffic.

JUST ABOUT TO jump in your car to head to Dublin? Well, the gardaí’s Christmas traffic plan comes into effect today, so best be aware.

Operation ‘Open City’ aims to manages Dublin’s seasonal traffic and hopes to help people get about their day’s business by facilitating the movement of traffic, said the gardaí.

The operation will be in effect from today up until 24 December.

There will be a high visibility of garda patrols in the city’s main arterial routes, car parks and main shopping areas during peak commuting and shopping times.

Gardaí said they will be monitoring the clearways of bus corridors and Luas tracks, as well as additional night time public transport such as the Luas.

Gardaí will be liaising with all other authorities such as the National Transport Authority, the National Roads Authority, the Dublin local authorities, transport providers and the business community, and there will be daily teleconferencing between the key players.

Gardaí strongly encourage people to leave their cars at home whenever possible over December and to be careful on the roads over the Christmas period.
