Gardaí seize €400,000 worth of cannabis plants

Gardaí say the seizure was as a result of an ongoing operation targeting the cultivation of cannabis plants in the Mayo area.

GARDAÍ SAY THEY have seized cannabis plants with an estimated street value of approximately €400,000 at a premisis in Swinford, Co Mayo.

The seizure took place yesterday evening with up to 1000 cannabis plants discovered at various stages of growth in a number of rooms in the premises at The Square in Swinford, Co Mayo.

Gardaí say the seizure was as a result of an ongoing operation targeting the cultivation of cannabis plants in the Mayo area.

Gardaí from Claremorris carried out the search in conjunction with Gardaí from Swinford and the Regional Support Unit.

They say that the premises had been renovated into a sophisticated cannabis growing factory with extensive lighting and ventilation systems.

A large amount of cultivation equipment was also found on the premises.

No arrests have been made and Gardaí say their investigations are continuing.
