AN IRISHMAN has been arrested in India for allegedly trying to smuggle ten kilogrammes of gold bars.
He was arrested at Kochi International Airport yesterday.
Customs said the man landed from Dubai on an Emirates flight. They confirmed that he is an Irish passport holder.
He was searched and the gold was found in his jacket and pants.
The man is currently being questioned in relation to the matter and the investigation is ongoing.
The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance through its embassy in New Dehli.
