Man in serious condition after being hit by a car in Co Mayo

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A PEDESTRIAN WAS taken to hospital after being struck by a car in Co Mayo in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí in Castlebar are investigating what they called “a serious road traffic collision” on the Moneen Road, Castlebar, that occurred at approximately 3.30am.

“A male pedestrian, aged in his late 30s, was seriously injured when a collision occurred between a car and the pedestrian,” a garda spokesperson said. 

He was taken to Mayo University Hospital and remains in a serious condition. No other injuries were reported. 

The road remains closed and the scene will be examined by forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
