A 27-year-old man who was seriously assaulted in Waterford last weekend has died

He passed away today at Cork University Hospital.

A MAN WHO was seriously assaulted in Waterford last weekend has died.

The 27-year-old received a number of head injuries as a result of the assault at around 3am on Saturday 7 July. It happened at the junction of John Street and the Manor.

He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Waterford and subsequently transferred to Cork University Hospital where he passed away today.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on the morning of Sunday 8 July. He was released without charge that evening and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.

Gardaí say the investigation is ongoing and are appealing for anyone with information, and to any person who may have witnessed this assault, to contact officers at Waterford Garda Station on 051 305 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
