Munster rugby player arrested after Kilkenny night out

An unnamed Munster player was arrested for a public order offence at 1:40am on Tuesday morning, the province says.

Update, 1pm, Dec 23: The Irish Independent says the player involved is Dougie Howlett.

MUNSTER RUGBY have confirmed that a player was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning following a public order incident in Kilkenny.

The player, who has not been named, had been on a Christmas night out in the city when he was arrested following an incident on John Street in the city, and was brought to the Dominic St station in the city, RTÉ reports.

He was released some time later, and is likely to be fined, having been dealt with under the Fixed Charge Penalty System.

A Garda spokesperson said the force had no details to offer. A statement from Munster Rugby on the incident is due later this evening.
